Coach Mia, originally from Niceville, Florida, began her volleyball journey at just 13 years old. Her dedication and talent for the sport led her to William Carey University, where she earned a full-ride athletic scholarship while pursuing a bachelor’s degree in physical education and recreation. During her time as a Crusader, Coach Mia built an impressive collegiate career, earning more than 20 Attacker of the Week honors across all four years and being named Player of the Year during her senior season.
While entering her junior year at William Carey, Coach Mia realized her passion for volleyball extended far beyond playing the game. She knew she wanted to remain deeply connected to the sport and began pursuing opportunities in coaching. Wanting to recreate the same unforgettable club volleyball experiences she had growing up, she reached out to Coach Gabe Rivera about joining and learning what Coqui Volleyball Club was all about, and why their motto was “Earned Not Given.”
After attending a clinic hosted by Coach Gabe at the club’s base gym in Richland, Coach Mia knew she had found her calling. During the clinic, she observed Coach Gabe’s passion, discipline, and intensity in his teaching style, which solidified her understanding of the club’s motto, “Earned Not Given.” Inspired by the opportunity to mentor and develop young athletes, she officially joined the coaching staff and dedicated herself to teaching the game she loves.
Coach Mia has proudly been a part of the Coqui family since 2021. Today, she serves as the Assistant Director and Secretary of Operations, where she continues to coach, mentor, and inspire athletes while sharing her passion and knowledge of volleyball both on and off the court.
