bio
Coach Gabes love of volleyball began at the age of four when he started playing in Puerto Rico. The son of Warren and Rebecca Kelly Rivera, that love has taken him all over the United States and allowed his players to see their volleyball dreams come true. Before earning his degree in Sports Administration, Coach Gabe spent five years in the United States Coast Guard as a fireman. Because he is bilingual, he also served as a translator. This led to his belief in the importance of clear, direct communication, which leads to mutual understanding and success.
After college, where he played Division 1 volleyball as a setter, Coach Gabe coached at Milligan College, East Tennessee State University, and Mississippi College. The University of Alabama, the University of Tennessee, the University of Florida, and Belhaven University have all had Gabe work with their summer camp programs.
Coquí was built from a vision.
Coach Gabe didn’t start this club to be average. He started it to change how athletes are developed.
After years of studying the game, building training systems, and mentoring players at multiple levels, he saw something missing: intentional development of volleyball IQ, mental toughness, and identity.
So he built it.
Coquí practices are intense. Detailed. Purpose-driven.
Every drill has meaning. Every rep has expectation.
But behind the intensity is belief.
Coach Gabe believes in:
-
Preparing athletes for college volleyball
-
Teaching young women to handle adversity
-
Building fearless competitors
-
Creating leaders on and off the court
He coaches hard.
He protects harder.
And every athlete who wears Coquí learns one thing quickly:
You are capable of more.
